Ian Bell cracked his best innings in the shortest format, as his 90 helped defending champions Birmingham Bears to a seven-wicket win over Durham Jets in the NatWest T20 Blast.
Ben Stokes provided plenty of entertainment with the bat for a home side making first use of the Emirates Durham ICG pitch, as his 40 in 28 balls alongside Calum MacLeod’s 41 got the hosts to a relatively competitive 163 for seven.
However, it proved to be the Bell show after that, as the 33-year-old clocked 11 fours and two sixes for his 65-ball stay, making the Bears' highest T20 score marking a successful first T20 game of the campaign.
He shared in a 96-run stand with Will Porterfield, who made 41, and the win was all but stamped and delivered by the time Bell’s innings ended three-and-a-half overs from the close.
